August 2026 Crypto Payment Statistics: Bitcoin Rails Gain, Monero Leads

August moved more crypto deposit volume toward Bitcoin. Monero remained the largest single payment method, while stablecoins held close to their July share.
Monero Remains First
Monero accounted for 38.55% of August's crypto deposit volume, up 2.13 percentage points from July's 36.42%.
Bitcoin Rails Reach 26.90%
On-chain Bitcoin rose from 20.44% in July to 24.92% in August. Lightning fell from 2.29% to 1.99%.
Combined, BTC + Lightning reached 26.90%, up 4.17 percentage points from July. The gain came entirely from on-chain Bitcoin.
Stablecoins Hold Their Share
USDT rose from 11.15% to 12.01%, while USDC fell from 7.07% to 6.38%.
Together, USDT + USDC represented 18.39% of August's crypto deposit volume, almost unchanged from July's 18.22%. PYUSD also appeared for the first time at 0.01%.
Nano, Bitcoin Cash, And Ethereum Decline
Nano fell from 5.48% in July to 4.36% in August. Bitcoin Cash moved from 4.45% to 3.15%, while Ethereum fell from 5.02% to 2.60%.
Solana was nearly unchanged at 1.90%, compared with 1.74% in July. Litecoin reached 1.58%, and TON and Zcash each remained below 1%.
